Hospitality Industry

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia:

"The hospitality industry consists of companies within the food services, accommodations, recreation, and entertainment sectors. The hospitality industry is a several billion dollar industry that mostly depends on the availability of leisure time and disposable income. A hospitality unit such as a restaurant, hotel, or even an amusement park consists of multiple groups such as facility maintenance, direct operations (servers, housekeepers, porters, kitchen workers, bartenders, etc.), management, marketing, and human resources."

The "accommodations" division of the Hospitality Industry is where our interest lies. That's because I've never been able to sleep on any of the sofa-beds I've tried in any of the dozens of hotels, motels, resorts, or B&Bs I've stayed in over the years. And I'm not alone. I mean these things are brutal: undersized mattresses where the sheets are always bunched, so thin only a mother could love it, and then there's that bar-in-your-back! What's up with that? My point is that the sofa beds found in most Hospitality Industry locations are below the quality of everything else they offer. And this page is designed to right that wrong by explaining how the LofaBed is a far better alternative.

LofaBed Feature/Benefits:

  1. INTRODUCING the "Premium" LofaBed Mattress. What good is a sofabed if it doesn't offer a good night's sleep? You're not going to have happy guests if they spend the night tossing and turning....which is why we've upgraded our standard LofaBed mattress to what we call the "Premium" option. All LofaBed mattresses are made of four layers of cotton batting and four layers of polyurethane foam, wrapped in 1/2" polyester to meet fire-retardancy regulations. But to bring out the maximum level of comfort, it's necessary to combine a high density with a low compression. The high density offers the promise of longer life...perhaps 10-20 years. But it's the low compression, along with the support of the Pirelli elastic webbing underneath, that brings the "comfort factor" of this mattress up a few notches, so that it can now compete with the other bed(s) in the room for a true quality night's sleep.

We accomplished this by bumping the density of our standard LofaBed mattress to a 2.0 lb. foam, and then "sandwiching" the layers so that more of the foam is toward the top, where it'll do the most good. Because foam is an oil derivative, its cost is subject to market fluctuations, and that has kept us from introducing this option to the general public. But the Hospitality Industry already benefits from volume discounting (-$100 per unit), and has a need for a high-end convertible sofa; so we figure the introduction of a premium product at a nominal upcharge* would be appreciated. *(+$55 for a full/double, +$70 for a loveseat/ottoman, and +$84 for a Mary Miller queen: price list)

  2. All LofaBed mattresses are of standard dimensions, except the chair (28"x75") and the "qouble" (54"x80"). Because of this, plus the fact that they're all 8" thick, fitted sheets fit very nice and tight. And guests, needing the entire surface area of a full (54"x75") or a queen (60"x80") to be comfortable, will not be disappointed. This cannot be said of traditional pull-out sleeper sofas as their mattresses average only 4.5" thick and are never more than 72" in length...even their queens...which are 8" shorter than standard!
  3. All LofaBeds are davenports, which means they all offer storage in the base. In the case of a full/double, the storage base measures 75"x28"x7"...plenty of room to store your sheets, blankets, and pillows. And the Mary Miller queen includes a 60"x26"x20" ottoman, where everything under the mattress is storage space. For small rooms where space is at a premium, this is like having an extra closet.
  4. All LofaBeds knock-down for easy handling. The arms come off, as does the mattress, which means the largest and heaviest piece to carry is the davenport base, which in the case of a full/double, measures 54"x75"x12" and weighs only 118 pounds. The queen, because it's in the configuration of a loveseat/ottoman, measures and weighs even less (individually). What this means is that the largest, individual piece of any LofaBed is only 12" wide when carried vertically, and that translates into "we can move this baby anywhere" kind of thinking. Try THAT with a 300 lb. hide a bed.
  5. Two spring-loaded, self-locking davenport mechanisms offer effortless convertibility, even when placed against the wall. Popular in eastern Europe and regions of the U.S. and Canada since the 1940s, this mechanism allows the user to apply body weight, instead of muscle strength, to open and close the LofaBed (see video). And because we know that any mechanism is the Achilles Heel of any sofa sleeper, we include an extra pair of hinges with every LofaBed ordered.
  6. The LofaBed frame is constructed of durable, solid Canadian hardwood. This is no import made out of wood you can't pronounce, that twists and warps and becomes unglued the minute it reaches North America. No, this is solid Canadian oak, or ash, or maple.....woods that have been used in furniture-making since 1608, when Samuel de Champlain installed the first permanent base in Canada at Québec. The benefit, of course, is that your LofaBed is made to last.
  7. The LofaBed comes in seven sizes (chair, twin/single, loveseat, full/double, "qouble," Mary Miller queen, and sectional), which means that whatever your needs, we've got a LofaBed to meet them. In addition, we've got eight interchangeable arm styles and 77 upholstery-grade fabrics to choose from....all at the same price! With a nod to one of my favorite advertising slogans, "This ain't your father's hide-a-bed!" (Oldsmobile)
  8. Exchange-Rate Discount:The Canadian dollar is currently on a roller-coaster ride, and we would like our prices to reflect the advantage that gives our American customers. Rather than constantly adjusting our prices, we've decided to post a weekly across-the-board discount on our Home Page.
  9. In summary, the benefits of being a Hospitality Industry customer are 1) "Premium" mattresses, 2) volume discounting, 3) a free pair of replacement hinges per LofaBed, and 4) for those paying in U.S. dollars...exchange-rate discounting. The minimum order is two (2) LofaBeds.
