LofaBed Demo: The boy in the video’s Marcus, my son…

By , January 2, 2011 12:12 am

Shortly after inventing the LofaBed back in 1996, I realized I needed a video to show potential dealers and retail customers, alike, just how easy it was to operate one.  So I enlisted the help of my boy, Marcus, who at the time was only ten-years-old, and weighed a mere 63 pounds!  I figured if someone so small and light could do it, ANYONE could…and the video proved it.

And Marcus was keen to help because I gave him free rein to ham it up…which he did with great delight.  The opening scene was the most difficult because it involved Marcus jumping from an off-camera ladder onto the LofaBed…smoothly.  We had no help…so each time he bounced completely off, which he did repeatedly, we had to start over.  I don’t remember exactly, but I think we went through 15-20 takes before we got it right.

The fun part, though, was watching his facial reaction to the script I was reading.  I coached him a little, but most of the reactive expressions were his alone, and I thought he improvised with great aplomb.  He MUST have done a good job, because to this day, I still get people writing and asking whatever became of “that cute little boy in the video?”  The answer is he grew up, went to Royal Military College (Canada’s version of West Point, Annapolis, and the Air Force Academy all rolled into one), and is scheduled to graduate this coming spring before heading off to flight school.

"Rambo" Marcus

And if there’s one thing that has remained true over the years, it’s that whatever Marcus decides to take on, he does it with great passion.  At first it was physical fitness, which enabled him to sail through basic training, and later it was fencing, which led to his being named captain of the team in his senior year.  In a few months from now he graduates, leading to the next stage of his life…perhaps the most exciting yet.  And the only thing for sure is that he’ll attack that, too, with passion.

The boy in the video’s Marcus, my son…
Who grew up real fast and is now twenty-one.
As a senior cadet,
It’s a really good bet…
He’ll be flying jet planes, not shooting a gun!
